I am Professor of Finance at Purdue University and Alexander von Humboldt Professor at ESMT, where I direct the European Expectations Center. I currently serve as an academic consultant to several central banks and policy institutions, including the Bundesbank, the Bank for International Settlements, and the Federal Reserve Banks of Cleveland and Dallas. Previously, I was on the faculty of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business for 11 years.

My research interests include macroeconomics, asset pricing, international finance, and household finance. A central question running through my work is how expectations — about inflation, income, and policy — shape real economic outcomes for households and firms.

Outside of academia, you'll often find me on a road bike or in running shoes, usually telling myself that one more climb or a few more kilometers is a good idea. Endurance sports are how I recharge — and occasionally choose to suffer.
